Hurricane Preparedness Month
WARA declares the month of June as Hurricane Preparedness Month.
Throughout Hurricane Preparedness Month, WARA focuses its efforts on:
- Ensuring that all its assets are operational and able to survive a category 5 hurricane
- Reviewing its emergency communications plan
- Encouraging its members to review their disaster plan
- Promote hurricane preparedness in the community
- Conduct a Simulated Emergency Test
Be Ready for Hurricane Season
Before a hurricane threatens, there are actions you can take to be ready.
Make a list of supplies for your hurricane kit. Check to see what you already have. Restock within the next several weeks.
Organize important documents and confirm coverage with your insurance agency.
Determine if you need to evacuate. Make a plan of action with multiple options.
Amateur Radio Disaster Plan
Amateur radio operators provide a vital service to the community in the event of loss of communication infrastructure. This means that they do not only need to plan for the safety and well-being of their families, they must also plan to serve their community. These are the areas an amateur radio must cover in his/her hurricane preparation.
